HELLO HAWAII PT. 2

Tickets are now on-sale for OBAKE at HIFF. We've been working like crazy to get the film finished in time. We will. And we hope to see you all there.

Also! Some of you might be interested in filmmaking, distribution, or maybe you just like hearing people you may or may not know talk shop. For you, there will be a free panel in which I will be one of the participants. It is on the current and future state of cinema in Hawaii. Did I say free?

And! For all you doc lovers, a feature documentary that I was an editor on, ALOHA BUDDHA, is also making its world premiere at this year's HIFF. ALOHA BUDDHA tells the story of Japanese-Americans in Hawaii (Issei, Nisei, Sansei...) through their religion, Japanese Buddhism -- a religion on the brink of being lost forever in the islands. It is a story definitely worth hearing.

Hello Hawaii

About a month ago, Anderson Le, programmer of the Hawaii International Film Festival, watched an early rough cut of OBAKE and strongly urged me to finish the film in time for the festival in October. HIFF is a festival that I adore, one I've been attending since I was young, and a HIFF premiere was always the goal. But there was still so much to do. So I took a week off of work, bought the cheapest ticket I could find, and here I am, back home, shooting pick-ups, recording ADR and so super stoked to announce that OBAKE will be having its world premiere at the 2011 Hawaii International Film Festival.

For the many of you who are here in Hawaii, I would love to see you all there.

The film screens on Sunday October 16, 1:00pm. It screens as a part of a shorts program which means that for the price of one ticket you get 9 films. Sweet deal.

And spread the word! Bring your friends, family, lovers of all ilk. Tickets go on-sale in a couple of weeks.

More information coming very soon.

DESTINATIONS

Our shoot dates are set, tickets are bought, minds are convening. We are assembling an all-star cast and crew -- including a handful of Layover, on the Shore alums. Our destination: the north shore of Hawaii in late-June.

Speaking of Layover, on the Shore, we've had two wonderful screenings this past month: one at the USC First Look festival where it was very well received, and another at the Big Island Film Festival where it was awarded the Golden Honu Award for Best Hawaiian Short. Fantastic news all around.

We are ready.

20% PAST OUR GOAL

The masses came out in full force, and I am thrilled to say that not only did we reach our kickstarter goal, we surpassed it by a large amount. This is great news and will help our production run that much more smoothly. Beyond that, I'm so glad to have the support of all of you that pledged. Thank you.

I will be posting updates on the production to our Facebook page. Click it:
